Etymology
Bolnore is Bulnore (1559 SAC 41, 207), Bownoure (1603 ParReg) and is to be associated with Wm de Bolnore of Balcombe (1327 SR). Perhaps 'bull's ora or bank,' referring to the steep hillside here. Alternatively we may have a pers. name Bula . Cf. Bouldnor (Wt), Bulenore (1346 Ipm).
