Etymology

'Place growing with alders, an alder swamp', from Brit verno- 'alders', with a suffix -eto-, as in Gaul  Vernetum , cf. Werneth La 51, Warren Burn Nb (DEPN s.n.), and Jackson 555. Cf. Long Alders Wood infra .
