, low marshy ground on the shore of Poole Harbour near Ower Fmsupra , no doubt to be connected with Shottewade n.d. (e15) MiltRoll , Shotwood Bay 1661 Hutch1 . Shottewade occurs in the bounds of Ower ; -wade is probably (ge)wæd ' ford ' , later confused with wudu ; -over may represent ōfer 1 ' bank, shore ' ; the first el . of both names may be sc(e)ota ' trout ' or a wk . form of the OE  pers.n. Scēot suggested by DEPN for Shoreston Nb , cf. Henry S (h )ot 1327SR ,1332 SR , Mary Shott 1664 HTax ( all Ch . Knowle ) .
