Bushey (SY 981835), 1861 Hutch3, Burshawe 1299 Banco, Bursewe 1550Midd , Burshew (e )1586, Bershew 1623 Hutch3, Bushy or Burshews 1700 (c. 1774) DCMDeed , Bushy 1740 Hutch3, Bushey or Buckshaw 1774 Hutch1, Bushaw 1811 OS, possibly 'small wood or copse with a cottage', from būr 1 and sc(e)aga, if the 13th-cent. form can be trusted, but the first el. may alternatively be (ge)būr 'a peasant'. A chapel here mentioned by Hutch3 1 535 is referred to in Bushew Churchyard , Church Cl 1844TA .
