Etymology

'Wulfgār's farm', from the OE  pers.n. Wulfgār and tūn. For the same pers.n., cf. the lost Este and Weste Wolgarslond infra . For the DB spelling, cf. ANInfl 121. The form Wlmareston contains the OE  pers.n. Wulfmǣr . East and West Woolgarston were presumably earlier names for Woolgarston and Lt Woolgarston (½ mile W) respectively, v. ēast , west . For -in Purbyck , v. Isle of Purbeck supra .
