Etymology

Norden Fm (SY 950829), 1844TA , Northdon 1291, Nordone 1381 Hutch3, Nordon c. 1586 Treset freq to 1861 Hutch3, Norden 1381 (16) Pitt , 1795 Boswell, 'north hill', v. norð , dūn , the latter el. confused with denu 'valley'. Although Norden Fm itself lies low, it takes its name from the ridge which reaches 300′ ¼ mile S and is called Norden Hill 1844TA , Hutch3 1527 who says that the farm 'takes its name from the north down…so called from its situation relatively to the south down at Kingston', cf. Kingston, Lynch supra .
