Scoles Fm (SY 964799), the crofte which Rob 't Scovile holdethe 1381 (16) Pitt , Skoules 1473, Skovylys 1510, Scovell 1528, Scolles 1618, Scowles 1623 Hutch3, 1774 Hutch1, 1861 Hutch3, Sc (h )oles Fm 1735, 1773DCMDeed , cf. Scoles Hill 1844TA , from the family of Scovill who probably originated from Escoville in Normandy and who were here at least as early as the 13th cent. William de Scouill occurs under Rowbarrow hundred in 1244Ass , John de Scovill possessed land in La Linche (now Lynch Fm supra ¼ mile W) in 1254 Hutch3 1525 (cf. also 1254 FF p. 101), and William Scovile , William Scouyle was taxed in Afflington tithing in 1327SR and 1332 SR.
