Etymology

Upperton (6″) is Uppeton 1176 P, Huberton 1198–1216AD , Opertone 1285 RH, 1332 SR, Oppertune 1296 SR, Up (p )etonne 1327, 1332 SR (p), 1357 FF (p). It was a tithing of the hundred and the name is still applied to the district north-west of the railway.
