Southbourne Level
Early-attested site in the Parish of Eastbourne
Etymology
Southbourne Level (6″). Southbourne was a name adopted in the 17th cent. (1636CplM ) to describe the district lying between the Town Hall and the sea. It is last found as such in a Court Roll of 1809. Hitherto the people living here had been distinguished as 'by South, at South, in the South' (1625–54 ParReg ).
