Etymology

Netherin (lost) is Netherin (ne )1364Ct , le Netherinne 1373Ct , 1650ParlSurv , Nytherinne 1461CplM . It was the old name of the Rectory manor of Eastbourne. The Manor House is now called Parsonage Fm, and lies below the level of the church and churchyard. Mr Budgen suggests that it is the nether 'inn ' or building in which the courts were held.
