Etymology

Perhaps 'farm called after Cydda', from the OE  pers.n. Cydda and -ingtūn, but Dr von Feilitzen rightly prefers the OE  pers.n. Cud (d )e indicated by the -u - and -o - forms, explaining the -i - forms as evidence of the occasional change -u - > -i - before dentals seen in Didcot Brk (DEPN), Diddington Hu (BdHu 254), Dinnington YW 1146. Cf. Tilston, Malpas 58, 38infra .
