Etymology

'Glade at a fortified place', v. burh , lēah . The first el. is in the gen.sg. form, burge , which also appears in Burhemare c.1240, Borowomer '1343Chol (A2, A67), a boundary of Burley , v. burge , (ge)mǣre.
