Etymology

, ' the bridge of Theokes ' towards Muche (sic for Muthe , i.e.The Mythe 64 supra )'1291 Episc, pons de Teukesbury in parte boriale in regia via super Avene '1368 Works, also called the Long Bridge 1638 Rudder ; this ancient bridge carries the Worcester road across the Avon . Leland gives an account of the bridge : King John … caussid the Bridge of Twekesbyri to be made of stone and at the northe ende a wodde bridge of a greate length for sodeyne lande waters . Certainly in the reign of John ( 1205 Cl ) two oaks were supplied from Bushley for its construction ( cf. Jervoise 171 ) .
