Etymology

'The river-confluence', v. (ge)mȳðe. The name refers to the land between the Severn and the Avon near the confluence of the former with the Old Avon to the west of Tewkesbury. Similarly the land between the Avon and Carrant Brook on the east side of the Avon is referred to in Mitton (Wo 102).
