Etymology

Shover's Green is le Sholuere 1402, Sholfere 1418Ct , Shover 1562Ct , Shover Green 1724 B. Professor Ekwall suggests that we may possibly here have an OE  scylfre , allied to OE  scylfrung , 'vacillation.' A possible sense of such a word would be 'see-saw.'
