Etymology

Holbeanwood is holanbeames mearce 1018 O.S. Facs. iii. 39, Holbem Wode 1479Ct . 'Hollow tree,' (v. hol , beam ), evidently used as a boundary-mark. Cf. Holbeam (D), DB Holebema .There was a lost Holbemesherst (1200–5 Pens), Holbemeserse (1208 Abbr) near by. v. ersc .
