Historical Forms

  • Pyggeuorde 1296 SR
  • Pegeford 1332 SR
  • Pikeford 1332 SR

Etymology

Pickforde was probably the home of Richard de Pyggeuorde (1296 SR), John de Pegeford (1332 SR) and Thomas Pikeford (1332 SR). This is apparently 'pig-ford' (ME  pigge ) with later assimilation of gf to kf .
