Etymology

Wisborough Green parish is made up of vills which were partly in Bury Hundred, hence the forms for Hurst Fm, Amblehurst, Barnfold, Brookland, Burchetts, Hookland, Luttmans, Heathfield, Sparr taken from the Subsidy Roll of 1296 (SRS 10, 73), Oakhurstfrom that of 1327 (ib. 151) and Naldretts from that of 1332 (ib. 269); partly in West Easewrithe Hundred hence the forms for Dunhurst and Malham from the Subsidy Roll of 1296 (ib. 74–5) and Malkinsons from that of 1327 (ib. 147); partly in Rotherbridge Hundred hence the forms for Loxwood, Headfold, Gunshot and Newpound from the Subsidy Roll of 1296 (ib. 78).
