Etymology

Slithehurst Fm (6″) is La Slefherst t. Hy 3 BM, Slefhurste 1314Rental , Slefhurst 1332 SR (p), 1368Rental , Slekurst 1511 LP, Slythehurst c. 1530Ct . The name is identical in origin with Slifehurst (PN Sx 107). It lies at the meeting of two small valleys. The sense is perhaps 'wood at a slippery place,' v. hyrst . Cf. also Slyfield supra 100.
