Etymology

Rumbeams Fm (6″) is Runbym (sic)1428, Rumbemus 1456, Rumbemys , Rumbeemes 1524, Romebemes 1624 Endowments. The name may well be of manorial origin, for there is a Rumbeam in Wisborough Green, going back to the 14th century (PN Sx 135), and there was a family of Rumbeam at Rumbeam Barn in Warnham (ib. 239) in the 15th century. The name is originally of local origin, denoting some large tree, v. rum , beam .
