Etymology

Losenersh (6″) is Losenesse 1263Ass , Losenersse ib., Loseners (s )h 1305Ass , 1313 FF (all p), Losenhersche 1314Rental , Loseners 1568 Endowments, Losenersh Farm 1765 R. The n forbids our taking this as a compound of OE  hlose, 'pig-sty,' for a genitival compound of it is impossible. Rather we must look for a parallel to the Kentish place-name Lossenham, Hlossanham BCS 141, containing a lost personal name Hlossa which may, as Ekwall suggests (Studies 27), be an s -derivative of the stem Hlōð , or a pet-form of such a name as *Hlōðsige .
