Etymology

This may be 'Eagga 's land' as suggested by Blomé (30), with an unrecorded pers. name, a pet form of Ēadgār .(For y , v. Introd. xxxiii). The name Geagga , found in Geaggantreow (KCD 650) is also possible, v. PN Wo 26, s. n. Hagtree for possible further examples.
