Etymology

This name is probably Celtic, the first element being the Co  tre , trev , 'homestead,' etc. The second may be the pers. name Eloc found in the book of LlandafF. If, however, the v is here part of the second element this may be the Celtic pers. name Maeloc . If both elements are Celtic we must assume that English influence led to a change from [trev′elik] to [′trev(e)lik]. Cf. Trevellick in Michaelstow (Co), Trevelek 1327SR (p), Trevelek , Trevalek 1338Rental .
