Etymology

The first element might be OE  cyric, from Brit cryc , 'barrow, hill,' but as Mr Chope points out, there is neither barrow nor conspicuous hill here, whereas Cheristow has an ancient chapelry. The first element is therefore more likely to be cyrice , 'church,' and this would agree well with stow , cf. Churchstow infra 295. The dedication was to St Wenn, cf. the place of that name in Cornwall.
