Etymology

'Hēahfrið's farm', from the OE  pers.n. Hēahfrið and tūn, with grange , cf. Grange Lane infra . This was a grange of Vale Royal Abbey 179supra . Here were le Henshous , le Munkesberne , le Shephous 1395 Orm2 ii150, 'hen-house', 'monk's barn', 'sheep-house', v. henn , scēp , hūs , munuc , bere-ærn. Professor Löfvenberg notes that Henshouse may contain hēns 'poultry' found in Henbrook Wo 282 (hensbroc 770 (11th) BCS 204) cf. Swed  hönshus 'a poultry-house', Hensington O 270.
