Etymology

Acton Bridge (101–600760), pons de Actona 13 AD, bridge of Acton 1459 Pat, Acton Brygge 1486BodlCh , Acton Brugge c.1500 Orm2, Acton Bridge 1599 ChRR, Acton bridg 1646 Sheaf, v. brycg . The bridge gives name to a hamlet here. Orm2 i 645 states that a footbridge and a ferryboat were to be provided at a ford between Acton and Dutton in 1286. This may explain Bridenefordclyf infra . Acton Bridge carries an extension of Peytevinnisty (1 43 (route IX)) across R. Weaver into Little Leigh 2115 to Street Lane 2114 in Dutton.
