Etymology

( 110–606714 ) , 1839TA 416 ( cf. 200supra ) , a boundary stone between Weaverham and Cuddington 198supra , v. stān . The first el . may be tollere ' a toll-gatherer ' or one of its derivative surnames Toller , Towler . Professor Löfvenberg notes , ' The modern form points to a ME  *tōler " a maker or seller of tools " . This word may be found in Robert le Toler (La) 1246 , included by Thuresson 141 under tollere " a tax - gatherer " ' . Cf. foll.
