Etymology

'Tract of land with a cross', v. cros , land . The DB spelling with Crois - is a substitution of OFr  crois. It is further distinguished from North Crosland (infra ) by the affix fosse (v. foss 1 'ditch'), but the particular reference is obscure; the original 1″ O.S. map marks an old camp (to which foss might refer) in the north of the township. The affix -Roger doubtless refers to some former owner.
