Standedge, Stonegg (e ) l. 12, 13 Nost 22d, 66, Stanegge c. 1272 SadD, Stanege 1468 ib, Stone-edge 1738 PRSad. 'Stone edge or escarpment', v. stān , ecg , here denoting a high ridge on the county boundary. On the modern form Stand - cf. Phonol. § 46.
