Etymology

Selsfield is Selefeld 1279, 1288Ass , 1290 FF (all p), Selefeud 1279Ass (p), Selesfeld 1279Ass (p), Schelefeld , Schelefeud 1279Ass (p). This is probably a compound of OE  sele and feld (s being unoriginal), i.e. 'open land marked by a hall.'
