Etymology

'Clearing or woodland of Citta's people,' v. leah . For the pers. name v. Chithurst supra 33. The correct form may possibly be OE  Cittungaleah with the same -ung - form for the more usual -ing - noted in PN Wo 152s. n. Oddingley. Cf. hafocungaleahge in the same charter. Chiddingly Fm is now called Rookhurst (M.S.H.).
