Etymology

Ridlands Fm (6″) is Rid Land Farm 1765 R, Ridlands 1840TA , and was the home of Stephen atte Redelond 1418Harl . This is probably 'cleared land,' v. ridde . Riddings Farm , mentioned in a deed of 1712 (SAC vi), is probably a different place, perhaps identical with la Redene 1312AOMB , Litelruden , Riddennes 1418Harl . v. infra 364.
