Etymology

'At the wet corner', v. wēt (wk.obl. wētan ), halh (dat.sg. hale ).The spellings show confusion with hwǣte, hwǣten 'wheat, wheaten', and hall 'a hall', cf. Wettenhall 327infra . Whetaleloue is 'the hill, or mound, at Wathall', v. hlāw , cf. Aston lowe infra . Wathall Fm (Bird House 1842 OS) is Wethall 1831 Bry, Kays Fm is Wethall Manor Farm ib.
