Etymology

'Budda's enclosure', from the OE  pers.n. Bud (d )a and worð.Spellings like Bud (d )es -, Bodes - may indicate *Budd , a strong form of the pers.n. (cf. Boddus , Feilitzen 204), but are probably due to an analogical gen.sg. inflexion, v. -es 2 . The p.n. recurs in Little Budworth 325infra . The suffix -in Halton '1500 Tab represents Haltonshire , to which the manor belonged, v. Halton Hundred 2supra .
