Etymology

( 101–627753 ) , 1831 ib , on R . Weaver and the Trent & Mersey Canal respectively , cf. Saltersford ( 101–629753 ) 1842 OS , a hamlet on the Runcorn road presumably named from a Salter 's ford over R . Weaver , v. saltere , ford . Whether this was part of a salt - way is not apparent , v. Crump 98n . There was a salt - house in Little Leigh 117infra , as well as those at Northwich .
