Etymology

'North hut(s)', v. norð , cot . The district is the north-west corner of the township. The singular and plural forms recur constantly, the plural being slightly the more frequent between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries. The modern name is from the stream Norcot Brook, itself named from this hamlet.
