, Law Hill 1709 WMB, 1771 M, named from(the great ) Nether law 1608Surv 12, 4, 1709 WMB , v. hlāw ' mound ' , hyll ; it refers to a great castle mound in Thornes Park which Leland describes as ' an hille of erth caste up , wher sum say that one of the Erles Warines began to build , and as fast as he builded , violence of winde defacid the work … sum say that it was nothing but a wind - mille hille . The place is now caullid Lohille ' ( cf. Lawefield Rd supra ) .
