, Quaggs Rd 1857OS , possibly to be associated with le Quaghe 1292 Kend i, 168, 'the moss of the Quaghes ' 1312 ib 169 , in the neighbouring parish of Helsington ; this is a much earlier example of e. ModE  quag ' marshy or boggy place, quagmire ' ( NED s.v. from 1589 ) , which may be ultimately related to OE  cwacian ' to tremble,shake ' .
