Etymology

Marshalholm (lost), Mares (s )halholm (e )1375 Ipm, 1376 Kend i, 147, 1377, 1401 Cl. Its location is uncertain but it seems to be associated as part of a knight's fee with Preston Richard (Kend ii, 206); it is possibly the same as le Holmes (which was held by Roger the Marshal) in 1283 Ipm, but cf. Rogerholme in Windermere (i, 193infra ), v. holmr 'water meadow'.
