Etymology

Scarah Bridge, Godwynebrygge 13 Font, Godwynebrig 1252–8 Ripl, Godwaine bridge at Sharrow mill 1576 Wheater, Godwin bridge otherwise called Scaro bridge 1767 Comm. The older name is from the Godwin mentioned 12 Font ii, 607–8; his name is also found in Godwin Oak and Godwynescalez (infra ). The later name is from Scarah (v. foll.); it is not to be confused with Scarnet Wood 99supra .
