Etymology

Mylah, Middelhou 13 Percy, Milow 1614, 1628 PRGis, Milah 1817.'Middle hill or mound', v. middel , haugr . The contraction is unusual, but can be explained as ME  mithel arising from the influence of ON  meðal 'middle' with loss of -th - (as in names like Bolton, Melton, Painley, etc.).
