Etymology

'Gumer's nook of land', v. halh . The first el. is an assimilated form of an OE  pers.n. Gūðmǣr ; this is not recorded, but the two themes are evidenced in names like Gūðmund and Godmǣr ; the name is in fact attested by the form Guthmarus films Lithwini c. 1170 (CMR iii, 262 Nf).
