Eldernell is Alrenhale 1315Thorney , Aldernhale c. 1350 ib., Aldernall 1436SewersC , Heldernale 1454 Fenland v, Ildernale 1463 ib., Eldernale 1505 ib. ii, Eldernall 1563 ib. v, 1576 Saxton, Eldernayle 1569 CHuAS i, Eldernhall 1579Depositions . 'Alder-tree nook.' The first element is OE  ælren , elren , adj. 'of alder,' from alor . ælren is also used as a subst. (allerne c. 1250 NED) and may be so used here.v. healh .
