Etymology

Pinland Fm is Pinland and land called Pende in 1499 (SAC 40, 120–1), Penlond in 1547 (SRS 14, 208) and is to be associated with Simon de la Pende or la Puynde (1261, 1279Ass ). This clearly contains the same element pynd , 'enclosure,' suggested for Pen Hill infra 200.
