Etymology

Benton's Place is the manor of Tabeler Hall called Beynton 1464 AD v, Beynton 1484 FF, Bentons 1610 SRS 19, 135. According to Lower (ii. 156) it belonged to Thomas de Bayntune in 1359.It was held by one Sir John Beynton in 1464 (u. s .). The name is clearly manorial, perhaps from Bainton (O). Other forms for Tabeler Hall are Taberlerhalle (1358 Ipm), Tabelereshale (1421 IpmR), Taberlershall al. Tavernshall (1610 SRS 19, 135).
