Etymology

Frogshole (6″) is Vauxhall in 1783 (Steyning Overseers ' Accts ), Frogs Hole in 1822 (ib.), Fogs Hole in 1840 (TA ). These forms are supplied by the Rev. E. W. Cox who points out that just to the south we have East Foxhole Furlong . The probability therefore is that this is a corruption of earlier foxhole , with occasional Sussex voicing of f to v .
