Etymology

'Catt's land,' with the same pers. name as in Catteshall (Sr), Cattistock (Do), and Catsfield infra 485. Such a pers. name is not actually on record and it would of course be possible to assume the name of the animal but the genitival forms make this unlikely, especially as there is also a Catsfold in this parish.
