Etymology

Run Fm (6″) and Common is Rone 1524SR , tenement voc. At Ronne 1595, Runlane 1598Onslow , Runn 1684 Musters, and was the home of Henry atte Rone (1294Ass ) and Philip atte Rone (1381SR ). The place is by a stream and the name may be from OE  ryne , 'running, flow, etc.,' but the persistent o is somewhat surprising. Alternatively one might take it to be OE  hruna , 'trunk, etc.' Cf. Runfold, Runwick supra 172–3.
