Etymology

Plonk's Hill and Fm (both 6″) is Plonke 1524, Plonk 1544SR , Plonkes 1558, Plonckes lane 1619Onslow , Plankes 1684 Musters, and may have referred originally to a building made entirely of planks or logs instead of the usual half-timbered framework typical of the cottages of the Weald. Cf. Plonk Barn (PN Sx 417), Plonkes (Worplesdon) 1609LRMB , and the pers. name (de ) la Planke 1327 SR (W).
