Etymology

Blackheath is le Blakheth 1500, Blackheath al. Churtheath 1581Onslow . The hundred took its name from here, v. supra 219.The alternative name is interesting, v. Churt supra 178. Blackheath Common is on the greensand between the Downs and the Weald.
